Terrible tragedy on Wednesday early in the morning in Gschnitz in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land. A fire broke out in the bedroom of an 86-year-old woman, resulting in a huge amount of smoke. The son who lived in the same house could no longer save his mother. Only the alarmed fire brigade managed to save the woman. Unfortunately, all help came too late.
At around 5.15 am, the 59-year-old son suddenly noticed a strong burning smell. He then went straight to his mother’s room. However, due to the enormous smoke development, he was no longer able to enter the room,” said a police spokesperson at the request of “Krone”.
A passerby who happened to be walking by the house noticed the smoke and immediately called 911.
All help came too late
“In the end” the respiratory protection team of the Gschnitz fire brigade was able to rescue the 86-year-old from the room,” the spokesperson continued. Unfortunately, all help for the woman came too late. The alarmed emergency doctor was only able to determine the woman’s death. An autopsy was ordered .
That was the result of the investigation
In the course of the subsequent investigations, the place where the fire broke out has been narrowed down to the area of a power strip. With a near certainty, a defect in an electrical outlet or a nearby candle was responsible for the fire,” explains the police spokesperson. Due to the massive destruction, this cannot be determined with certainty.
