In 2025, at least 25 people in Austria have been admitted to the hospital with a TBE infection so far. In the previous year, with 158 hospital admissions, there had been the third highest value of the past ten years.
Lymeborreliosis and early summer meningo -encephalitis (TBE) are the most common diseases in Austria.
So far, this year, 940 signs have been investigated on Borrelia, the pathogens of Lyme disease. According to the Health and Nutrition Security Agency (Ages), 208 animals were positive (22.1 percent). Rickettsia was found in 15.6 percent of all ticks.
But also Anaplasma Phagocytophilum (5.8 percent), Candidatus Neoehrichia Mikurensis (2.0 percent) and the fall in the fall in Borrelia Miyamotoi (0.6 percent) have already been demonstrated this year.
