In Italy, alcohol directors will have to install a fee in their car in the future if they have been convicted. There are already so -called alcoholocks in countries such as the US or Sweden.
The devices work as an alcohol check by the police: if you want to drive away, you have to blow in a tube. If the person is sober or just drank a little, the journey can begin. However, if the value is greater than 0.5 per thousand, the system prevents the car from being started. The installation of alcoholocks is only possible in authorized workshops to prevent the lock from being avoided.
With the new regulation, the Italian government wants to reduce the number of traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol under Giorgia Meloni. In our neighboring country, around 3,000 people are killed in traffic accidents every year, alcohol is often involved. Just like in Germany, the alcohol border is 0.5, but is arranged relatively rare.
Age of cars in the way?
Experts doubt that the new regulation can be implemented as planned. For example, a fifth of the cars registered in Italy is more than 20 years old. It is impossible in such cars to install electronic removals, it said.
The device must be installed for two or three years. The steering wheel that was convicted for 0.8 per thousand are affected by the wheel or more. If you have 1.5 per thousand and more in your blood, you have to drive an alcohol for three years. The costs are estimated at around 2000 euros per vehicle. If you travel without a device despite the conviction, a fine must expect up to 638 euros. Moreover, the driver’s license has disappeared again.
