A residential building was completely destroyed in an explosion in the Czech Republic on Monday. Dozens of neighboring houses in Olsany u Prostejova municipality have been damaged, some seriously, police said. Two passers-by who were on the street at the time of the explosion were injured and handed over to emergency services.
It was initially unclear whether people were buried under the rubble. A rescue dog team and firefighters with special equipment were on their way to the accident site.
Surroundings cordoned off
According to the first information, renovation work has recently taken place in the one-storey building. According to news agency CTK, the area – including a driveway – was cordoned off over a large area. Technicians have shut off the gas supply.
Olsany u Prostejova is located near Olomouc (Olmütz), about 200 kilometers east of the Czech capital Prague. The place has about 1800 inhabitants.
