Police officers in Klagenfurt saw a cruel face when they followed up on a complaint on Tuesday. On a private property, they found crowds of pigeons, chickens, ducks and more – crammed together, with no food and in extremely bad shape. Some animals had even died.
Suspicion of animal cruelty was reported to the Annabichl Police Inspectorate, so officials visited the said premises in Klagenfurt on Tuesday morning. Different types of poultry were housed on the site in different pens. “About 45 pigeons were crammed into a far too small and totally dirty pigeon loft without food,” says a police officer.
Dead ducks floated in ponds
Chickens, ducks and a turkey were kept in an outdoor enclosure in the blazing sun and without food or water. “We immediately watered the animals. They literally jumped on it. There were even dead ducks floating in a filthy pond,” police said.
In addition, sounds of multitudes of birds could be heard in other wooden sheds and a wooden hut. But these were locked. The notified official veterinarian found numerous deficiencies. The 51-year-old owner was not present and is reported.
