It was an unlit area and there was no zebra crossing – which turned fatal for a young holidaymaker (20) in the Tyrolean Zillertal on Monday evening. The young woman wanted to cross the highway near Zell am Ziller and was hit by a car.
The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. The driver (48) was only able to recognize the 20-year-old Dutch woman at the last minute. Despite immediately applying the emergency brakes, the holidaymaker was hit by the vehicle.
The Dutch woman was unconscious for a short time
The impact threw the 20-year-old to the other side of the street. She lay there unconscious. When rescuers arrived, the young woman was already responding. She was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck with significant injuries.
