The shock video of a hunter kicking a fox to death in the Innviertel has caused a lot of excitement since a message from “Krone”. The State Hunting Association of Upper Austria criticizes the behavior of the hunter, which is not suitable for hunting. But you cannot punish transgressions yourself.
The images of the video leaked to the “Krone” on Monday are shocking. A young fox, lost in a cider tavern in Geinberg on June 3, was fatally bitten by a hunting dog inside the building. A group of men watch with interest, then one of them – a hunter – climbs on the skull of the fox, the cub is dead, those present are asked to take pictures of the carcass. Criminal investigations against the hunter after a complaint on suspicion of animal abuse are dropped by the prosecutor’s office of Ried.
“Couldn’t Shoot in the Building”
The “Krone” report on this case caused a majority of horror. State hunting champion Herbert Sieghartsleiter only now found out and asked the hunters in Geinberg: “Of course the shots look terrible. However, the hunter assures that he only wanted to quickly save the fox by kicking him. He couldn’t shoot into the building either.” But that was by no means fair.
However, the man can also not expect sanctions from the state hunting association. “In such cases, our hands are completely tied. Unfortunately, unlike other states, in Upper Austria we do not have a disciplinary code for violations of ethical behavior,” emphasizes Sieghartsleitner. He’s been clamoring for this for years — and there have been suggestions from experts, all of which have so far been rejected: “But we definitely need ways to take action against fighters that damage our reputation.”
