Annoyed by the lack of staff and the pandemic, one lady threw everything down. Now the Tyrolean Raffaela Hönel has reinvented herself and runs a food truck. The 51-year-old is convinced that you can emerge stronger from crises and upheavals.
Landlady gives up for the winter season, headlined the Krone. And described how the Kössenerin (51) gave up the management of the Bärenhütte there. That 1500m track that was once a calling for a graduate of a tourism school. What must we do? “In the autumn my eye fell on a food truck that a woman from Kitzbühel wanted to sell because she was emigrating,” says Hönel. she snapped, risking nearly a six-figure sum.
“Finding a permanent stand is almost impossible”
But the five-star kitchen on wheels called “Berg Gams’l” initially created new hurdles in life: “It’s almost impossible to find a place to stand, it’s all about the operating license, the smell and the noise and Neighbors’ Complaints An official once said during the debates: “We are not in the US, where everyone can do what they want.”
Booked at many events
A permanent location in Kössen therefore failed, but Raffaela did not give up. “I have now been booked for many events. Logistically, it’s not exactly easy, but things are going well,” says the woman from Kössen. Harley festival in Kitzbühel, darts championship in the Zillertal, midsummer night’s dream in Walchsee, soon the reggae festival in Telfs – the restaurateur with the smart ideas (often vegan, very individual) is well received everywhere.
You talk to people at the food truck
“In a food truck you talk to people in a completely different way than in a thumping ski hut. And people can see us cooking, there is total transparency. Whenever possible, people buy from the local bakery or butcher,” says the woman, who saw the revolution as an opportunity. “Never stand still is my motto, confront the twists and turns of life. Then you come out stronger.”
The key here is family cohesion: son Alexander (24) and his girlfriend Anna-Lena (23) help in the mobile kitchen. And Raffaela’s partner is also a support, even though his work is different.
Not comparable to a sausage stall
Incidentally, the food truck cannot be compared to a sausage stall. “In terms of equipment, it really plays up every piece – with sink, oven, grease trap and stainless steel equipment.” A second local mainstay for the passionate restorer is a small wooden hut next to the cable car in Kössen, where paragliders in particular strengthen themselves. “That sometimes equates to a 19-hour workday,” reports the 51-year-old.
But the feeling of being armed against all the crises in the world with new ideas and a lot of passion predominates.
