Italian Minister of Public Administration Renato Brunetta has declared himself a victim of body shaming on television because of his short stature. “I am called a dwarf, it bothered me and it still bothers me,” the 72-year-old minister said on Sunday.
“Fortunately, I am strong. I am a university professor, parliamentarian, MEP and twice a minister. I have gained a lot of experience. I am responsible for what I have achieved, not for my appearance,” said the 1.54-meter-tall minister.
Brunetta emphasized that he speaks for all those children who are not lucky enough to be big and beautiful. “You can follow my example and say: you see, Brunetta has even become a minister. I didn’t choose to be tall or short. I am responsible for what I do, not to be a dwarf. I’ve never been able to talk about it publicly. But now I’m talking about it because that means dealing with the matter,” he explained.
leave party
Brunetta left his Forza Italia party on Wednesday after it surprisingly decided to no longer support Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s government. Brunetta criticized this decision and resigned with two other ministers from Forza Italia, the party led by ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, to which he belonged for almost 30 years. He deeply regrets the break with Berlusconi, according to the minister. He also lamented a strained relationship with Berlusconi’s partner Marta Fascina, who is also said to have taunted him as a dwarf.
New ideas in politics
“Something has broken with Berlusconi. It’s like a love affair: if something breaks, it can no longer be made right. In any case, I wish Berlusconi the best of luck.” The minister is now trying to build a “Republican Union” of parties that will incorporate the government agenda of deposed Prime Minister Mario Draghi as a political program ahead of the snap general election on September 25.
