Tragic accident Monday morning on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn in Hirschbach in the Waldviertel (Lower Austria): After a collision, the car of an 80-year-old got stuck under the locomotive. All help came too late for the woman.
The dramatic scenes took place around 10:45 am in the municipality of Hirschbach at the Stölzles level crossing in the Waldviertel. The 80-year-old was probably on his way home by car and crossed the track at the same speed despite the red light. At the same time, a passenger train of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn with 28 passengers, traveling in the direction of Gmünd, passed this level crossing.

Despite an emergency stop, the train hit the car and dragged it for more than half a kilometer. The emergency doctor could only determine the death of the driver.
The rescue work was difficult because the car involved in the accident got stuck under the locomotive. The wreckage was eventually lifted off the rails by the fire brigade.
The 28 passengers on the train were unharmed, according to police. They were taken to Pürbach train station by shuttle services by helpers from the fire brigade.
