Gottfried O. was sentenced to life in prison today in the trial of Wals’ double murder. The jury unanimously ruled that the professional detective, his 50-year-old ex-girlfriend Helga B. and her 76-year-old mother Ingrid B. shot on 5 May 2021 in Wals-Siezenheim (Flachgau). In addition, a referral was ordered to an institution for mentally abnormal lawbreakers.
The third day of negotiations in the double murder trial against the man from Salzburg began Thursday with pleadings. Prosecutor Elena Haslinger explains: “In my opinion, there can be no question of a state of emergency”. She is convinced that the suspect wanted to take revenge on May 5 for the insults of the two women. “He was very methodical.”
The suspect also settled with the 50-year-old because she had reservations about the relationship. She was unwilling to side with the suspect in front of her family. In emails, the woman also complained about the man’s pushy behavior. “She didn’t feel like she was being followed and watched for no reason.”
Private party representative Stefan Rieder demanded a total of 110,000 euros for partial pain compensation for two relatives of the murdered women. “We’re dealing with an execution by a wounded narcissist,” Rieder said, referring to the term “love bombing.” “That means showering someone with love, making the other emotionally dependent. This makes it difficult for the victims to break out of the relationship.”
In his closing words, the suspect again said that he was very sorry that he had brought suffering and grief to the families of the two victims. He thought it was “too far-fetched” that “Love Bombing” had caused the double murder. The 50-year-old’s mother and brother spoke out against the relationship between the two after a short time. “They have tried everything possible,” he referred to the numerous conflicts that are also on the record.
His client loved the woman and assumed she loved him too, Schweitzer said. “The two met in secret to continue their secret affection. It was not a planned execution, but a murder of affection with a lot of emotion.” The lawyer also cited the “repentant confession” as a mitigating factor.
Life imprisonment with incarceration
On Thursday around 1.30 pm, the jury announced the verdict against Gottfried O.: The professional detective sentenced him to life imprisonment for his cold-blooded crime. In addition, at the request of the public prosecutor, he is admitted to an institution for mentally disturbed but healthy delinquents. The verdict is not final.
