A Chinese tourist was attacked by two men in central Vienna in early May and his watch was stolen. Shortly after the crime, the victim (39) managed to stop one of the two perpetrators and hand it over to the police. Closer investigation revealed that this was not the first act of the two suspects.
According to the police, the robbery took place on May 12 in Johannesgasse. The alleged perpetrators addressed the tourist, suddenly tore his watch from his wrist and hurried away. But the 39-year-old gave chase alone. He ran after the men and even managed to stop one of them until the police arrived.
The 27-year-old Moroccan was then taken to a prison by the officers. His accomplice is still wanted. According to police, the amount of damage is in the middle four-digit range.
Accused were serial offenders
In the course of the investigation, the officers were able to determine that the two men committed two other robberies, between 7 and 12 May in Mariahilf and in Neubau. They also allegedly took a watch and extra necklaces from their victims. The men have now been recognized by those affected aged 39 and 77. There were also recordings from surveillance cameras showing them during the raids.
