A nighttime motorboat trip on the Wörthersee after a drunken evening ended for a German group with an emergency landing on the snake island near Pörtschach. Breaking the reed band and then suddenly stopping in the swamp, the 64-year-old captain hit his head against the window pane, sustaining serious injuries to his face and head.
The police investigation will also cause additional headaches in the near future, because it is suspected that the German clearly exceeded the nighttime speed limit of 25 km/h during the accident.
The luxury motorboat Riva Aquariva Super, with an estimated value of 360,000 euros itself, is still on Snake Island. “We don’t have the right vehicles for such salvage operations,” explains Klaus Gruber, commander of the Pörtschach municipal fire brigade. “In addition, there is currently no immediate danger, so there is no need for action for our emergency services. The salvage and costs are now a matter for the private individual.”
