A 22-year-old Viennese is said to have announced a killing abroad via Snapchat. He also posted several photos of weapons, some of which he had made himself. An unknown person caught the attention of the police, who then approached on Wednesday evening with a large contingent of the WEGA special unit and knocked on the door of the 22-year-old’s apartment…
The operation was initiated by an unknown person who came to the Schulgasse Police Station in Währing and wordlessly locked the screenshots of the Snapchat messages. Then the man disappeared again. Police officers identified the author of the messages, who made abstract announcements about the shooting, as well as suicidal thoughts.
Multiple weapons seized
The 22-year-old’s apartment on Handelskai was initially surrounded by emergency services. The man eventually came out voluntarily, saying they were “just brain games,” according to the police broadcast. Three airsoft guns, two toy guns, an air pistol, a saber and a converted brass knuckle were found in the apartment.
The man was eventually transferred to the psychiatric ward via a placement request.
