The Pinzgau took stock the day after the heavy thunderstorm. However, the weather could become an issue again.
The aftermath of the severe storms will probably keep the Pinzgau firefighters busy for a long time to come: a thunderstorm also struck the Oberpinzgau around 7.30 pm on Friday evening.
In Wald im Pinzgau, for example, the local fire chief Norbert Stöckl and his 17 comrades had to work at six locations – debris flows and flooding kept the Floriani on their toes. There were not only problems with the Breuergraben.
A muttered car on Gerlossstraße (B165) also had to be recovered. “It was almost the same weather as the day before,” says Stöckl. The volunteers were also deployed in Krimml. “There was a risk of water entering a stable building,” said local fire chief Robert Mair.
“The comrades are on vacation for these missions. Our advantage is that in this case we are on duty at the weekend.” As reported, severe thunderstorms in Oberpinzgau caused debris flows and flooding on Thursday evening. The center of gravity of the operations was in Hollersbach – the Grubingerbach supplied enormous amounts of water. The result: countless impassable streets, flooded cellars and mud flats. Since then, the fire department has been on duty with all four disaster trains in the district. The storm continued until late in the evening on Friday.
The generally unpredictable weather conditions in the Pinzgau cause worrying lines. “No one can say how it will develop,” explains Commander Portenkirchner. Rain is forecast for the affected area in the coming days.
