Fire alarm in a hotel in the Tyrolean Gurgl (Imst district) Friday afternoon: a fire broke out in the kitchen in the frying room. All employees and guests were evacuated. Two people had to be taken to a doctor with suspected smoke inhalation.
The fire broke out in the hotel’s kitchen around 3:30 p.m., presumably due to overheating of the thermostat in the deep-fat fryer. “The 42-year-old chef immediately tried to extinguish the fire with a fire blanket, but was unsuccessful,” the police said.
50 people evacuated
He was eventually able to bring the fire under control with a fire extinguisher, causing heavy smoke development. “The hotel management has now been able to evacuate 35 guests and 15 employees successfully and unharmed,” the researchers continued.
The alarmed fire brigade then carried out extinguishing work. In addition, the affected building was ventilated. The chef and an employee (42) were taken to a doctor with suspected smoke inhalation.
The extent of the damage caused cannot be estimated at this time.
