The death of Doctor Lisa-Maria Kellermayr has caused shock and consternation across the country. People gathered on Friday for spontaneous vigils and laid flowers for the health ministry in Vienna, as well as for the 36-year-old’s practice in Upper Austria. Remembrance rallies are also scheduled for Monday in several Austrian cities.
Apparently, so far, only the meeting on Vienna’s Stephansplatz from 8:30 pm, initiated by Daniel Landau, has been recorded. On Monday evenings, the doctor should be quietly reminded with a sea of lights. “At 9 p.m., we want to commemorate the late Dr. Lisa-Maria Kellermayr,” Landau said. The cathedral bells should also ring, cathedral priest Toni Faber confirmed to Kathpress on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Pummerin was said to remain silent because her ringing was “protocol arranged.”
Data is also circulating on social media for simultaneous vigils in Wels, Linz and Graz. Contrary to social media calls, there were no events registered with the Upper Austria police for Linz and Wels on Sunday afternoon. The same was true for Graz.
Insulted and threatened for months
Kellermayr had been insulted and threatened for months by opponents of the corona measures and vaccination, and she also published emails on her practice homepage. She initially received police protection, but then spent around 100,000 euros on protective measures, she says, because she did not feel sufficiently protected by the authorities.
The ordination was concluded in June. “I can’t take any chances when it comes to the safety of my patients and staff,” Kellermayr explained at the time. Also in June, the public prosecutor’s office in Wels dropped the investigation into a German suspect – on the grounds that they were not responsible, but the German authorities. However, a hacker activist found two Germans who allegedly wrote threatening emails.
The doctor was found dead in her office Friday morning. Austrian police are investigating the hate mail further against unknown perpetrators – it can be assumed that the allegations affect several people, as the researchers say.
