After the accident in Tyrol – Cessna on the roof: the pilot chose the wrong flight path

Date:

After the plane crash on Sunday afternoon in the Tyrolean town of Höfen (Reutte district), the shock is still great: a Cessna crashed on the roof of a house immediately after takeoff. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been clarified. However, it is now clear that the German pilot (54) was not on the indicated flight path. The affected home is currently uninhabitable.

A mess in the bedroom: One can speak of unbelievably lucky that the residents of the parental home were not at home on Sunday afternoon. At exactly 3.17 pm, the Cessna, which had just taken off from the airport in Höfen, crashed into the residential area. Directly on the roof of the house. The small plane hit like a bomb. The German pilot and his wife (56) were seriously injured and had to be rescued by the fire brigade at great expense.

Wreck is now being examined in detail
The exact cause of the crash is still unclear. The wreck was examined by experts for the first time on Monday and then salvaged. “It was then transported to Innsbruck airport,” Klaus Hohenauer of the aviation authority of the federal state of Tyrol told the “Krone”. The wreckage is now being examined there and it is examined whether a technical defect may have led to the accident. It is of course also possible that there was a medical emergency.

What is certain is that the Cessna was on the wrong flight path. According to Hohenauer, the pilot did not fly in the direction of Reutte over the Lechauen according to the instructions, but turned left in the direction of the settlement area. Whether it was pilot error, or a medical emergency or technical glitch behind it, must now be ascertained.

Residents stayed with neighbors
In any case, the demolished house is currently uninhabitable. The residents now stay with neighbors. It is not yet clear when those affected will be able to move in again.
