Texas Appearance – Orban: “Less Drag Queens and More Chuck Norris”

Date:

In a speech at the start of a conference of right-wing conservatives, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called for a “joint fight against progressive liberals” in the Republican stronghold of Texas on Thursday. “They hate me like they hate you,” the 59-year-old said towards the conference attendees.

At the beginning of his speech, the European guest introduced himself as “Europe’s longest-serving head of government” and “the only fighter against illegal migration in Europe”. On the national language, Orban noted: “Pope Francis once told me that Hungarian is the only official language in heaven because it takes forever to learn. And that is an understatement.”

Orban repeatedly used war rhetoric in his speech. He received a loud applause from the several hundred spectators in the hall. The Hungarian prime minister described himself as an “old-fashioned freedom fighter” and claimed his country was under siege by “progressive liberals”. He compared them to the communists. “We need more rangers, less drag queens and more Chuck Norris,” Orban said, referring to the legendary American martial artist. He is known as a conservative evangelical Christian.

Orban swears at “idiots”
Orban also commented on his controversial speech in the Romanian seaside town of Baile Tusnad, saying allegations that he was anti-Semitic or racist were fake news. Those who are spreading these messages are “just idiots”. During the speech, the right-wing conservative prime minister said, among other things: “There is a world where the peoples of Europe mix with those who come from outside Europe. It’s a mixed race world.” On the other hand, there is the Carpathian Basin, where European peoples such as Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks and others intermingled. “We’re willing to get along, but we don’t want to become multiracial.”

Here’s Orban’s full speech:

The Conservative Political Action Conference is a regular gathering of right-wing conservatives that also brings together numerous supporters of former US President Donald Trump and conspiracy theorists. At the meeting, which lasts until Sunday, Trump will also speak – on Saturday evening (local time). Also expected are his Trump companion Steve Bannon, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, known for right-wing conspiracy theories, and arch-conservative former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
