A fourth is on its way to Chernomorsk to load grain, making it the first ship to dock in a Ukrainian port since the start of the war.
On Friday morning, three more grain ships left Ukraine thanks to the UN-backed deal for Russia to lift the blockade of Ukrainian ports to alleviate the global food crisis, Turkey’s defense ministry said. Ships loaded with maize will land in Ireland, England and Turkey, the ministry said in a statement.
They sail under the control of the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) established on July 22 in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine, with Turkey and the UN as mediators, to facilitate the export of Ukrainian grain, which has been detained since the Russian invasion. February 24 is blocked.
The Panamanian flag ship ‘Navistar’ has left Odessa for Ireland with 33,000 tons of maize. The ‘Rojen’, sailing under the Maltese flag, departs from the port of Chornomorsk with 13,000 tons for England. And the Turkish freighter ‘Polarnet’ has left Chernomorsk for Turkey with 12,000 tons of grain.
At the same time, the ‘Fulmar’, flying the flag of Barbados, was on its way to the same Ukrainian port to load, the Turkish ministry said.
The first Ukrainian grain ship, the ‘Razoni’, departed from Odessa last Monday, loaded with 26,000 tons of corn bound for Lebanon. The Sierra Leonean-flagged ship was inspected Wednesday in the Istanbul Bosphorus by the CCC, a team made up of officials from Turkey, the UN and both sides of the conflict.
Russia and Ukraine are the world’s main grain suppliers. The export block has caused food prices around the world to skyrocket.
