Threatening Autumn Wave – No Lottery Game at the Fourth Stroke

Date:

For the approaching autumn wave, the following vaccination is recommended for the elderly and for the vulnerable target group. According to the National Immunization Committee, a basic vaccination via the third sting is sufficient for healthy people between the ages of twelve and 64 years.

A lack of willingness to test, even in the case of symptoms, combined with a bias in the true number of cases, makes it increasingly difficult for the predictive consortium to see into the future. However, declining hospital numbers and a decrease in occupied intensive care beds seem likely. So the dreaded summer horror wave probably didn’t materialize.

Education as a booster for vaccination readiness
However, the National Vaccination Commission warns for the autumn. A planned vaccination campaign aims to encourage the Austrians to stab in order to keep the number of hospitals bearable. “We want to achieve the highest possible level of vaccination readiness this autumn through more information and, above all, a more direct approach to the population that wants to be vaccinated,” says the Ministry of Health. On the other hand, changing the mind of those who oppose vaccination is a battle against windmills. To be well protected for the cold season, one should not wait for an adapted vaccine. Depending on the approval, these can take a long time.

Absolute immunity not realistic
“A fourth vaccination is currently recommended for people at risk and those over 65 years of age,” emphasizes the Ministry of Health, pointing out that “there is no such thing as absolute immunity to SARS-CoV-2. For healthy, immune-competent people between the ages of twelve and 64, a basic vaccination (3rd vaccination) is a good protection against serious courses.” No vaccine has yet been approved in Austria for children under the age of five, which is why there is no vaccination recommendation.

Large study from Israel proves effectiveness
A study from Israel with about 30,000 test subjects has now shown the benefits of a fourth vaccination. For example, it reduces the chance of a breakthrough infection with omicron from 20 to seven percent in the first weeks after vaccination. Another advantage: with a breakthrough infection, all subjects studied had a mild course of disease.
