In January of this year, an unknown person threatened the cashier of a supermarket in the Lehen district of Salzburg with a gun and stole money. The perpetrator turned himself in to the police in Upper Austria on Sunday.
An 18-year-old from Salzburg made an emergency call to the police in Upper Austria shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday and confessed to a robbery at a supermarket and a burglary at an apartment. The young man, heavily intoxicated, stated that he took responsibility for his actions. A police patrol found the young man moments later at a gas station in the Braunau district and took him to the next police station.
During an initial interrogation, the 18-year-old confessed to robbing a food market in the city of Salzburg on January 24. Shortly before closing time, he threatened the 21-year-old cashier with a gun and stole money. He also admitted to stealing and destroying several cannabis plants on April 13 in revenge for a home burglary. As a motive for the robbery, the 18-year-old stated that he could no longer finance his drug addiction.
The Salzburg prosecutor ordered the arrest and the repentant robber was transferred to the Salzburg prison.
