A 22-year-old Tyrolean is dead, neither of the two occupants of the second vehicle involved wants to be behind the wheel – yes, they would even have lied to the police: the investigation into the terrible accident at the end of July in Haiming (Imst district) continues at full throttle. But soon – according to the police – the mystery could be solved.
Review: The horror crash occurred in the late evening of July 29. The 22-year-old driver from the Tyrolean Oberland was driving on the main road in the vicinity of Ötztal Achbrücke when a dark pickup truck with two men (28 and 34 years old) approached her. There was a head-on collision. The young woman’s Audi was literally ripped to shreds.
The driver himself was trapped. She was treated through the window by the alarmed emergency doctor. But all help came too late. The 22-year-old succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.
Alleged lie-triggered search
And who was driving the pickup? That was a great mystery from the start. Why? As the “Krone” learned from emergency services circles, the two allegedly intoxicated men allegedly hired a taxi driver to drive their pickup. The taxi driver walked away injured after the accident. As a result, a major search operation involving more than 80 emergency services was launched in this area.
This was eventually cut to no avail after suspicions were confirmed that the taxi driver story was a fairy tale.
Police have “concrete suspicion”
Since then, the investigation has been ongoing. There would have been a lot of alcohol involved then. The alleged driver could soon be convicted. As a police officer said when asked by “Krone”, “we now have a concrete guess as to which of the two was the driver”.
For “reasons of tactical investigation” they do not want to divulge any more details at this time. The interrogation of the two men is still pending, but will take place shortly.
