An Italian motorcycle couple’s excursion on the Bernina Pass in the neighboring Swiss canton of Graubünden ended deadly. The 52-year-old motorcyclist and his 57-year-old passenger were “shot” when two overtaking cars collided, fell and suffered fatal injuries
The engine couple was on the Berninaweg from La Rösa down the valley towards San Carlo shortly after 2.45 pm on Monday. Behind the machine followed a 40-year-old Italian and a 28-year-old Swiss with their cars. In the Plana Scüra plot, the two cars started overtaking and collided with each other.

As a result of the collision, the engine was caught by one of the two vehicles and the engine torque fell. While the 52 driver fell onto the road, his 57-year-old passenger was thrown over the guardrail and onto a sloping embankment. Both suffered serious injuries in the fall that the resuscitation by the immediately alerted rescuers was not successful and both the man and the woman died at the scene of the accident.
Berninastrasse was closed for more than four hours after the accident. The Graubünden prosecutor’s office and the cantonal police have further investigated the exact course of the accident.
