The Fridays For Future Austria activists’ “Climate Blocker Tour” continues. On Friday, protesters gathered in front of the Environment Ministry to demand a new climate protection law.
An announcement said Green Minister Leonore Gewessler, “who likes to call herself climate minister,” was particularly disappointed at the lack of a climate protection law and had to take a stand against the ÖVP. “Amid a hot summer and an energy crisis, there is no legal basis for the energy transition,” it said on Twitter.
“We need major changes”
At the end of July, about 50 activists visited the OMV headquarters in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. The next stations in Vienna are then the Chamber of Commerce and the ÖVP. “A few measures and funding here and there are not enough! We need profound, systemic changes,” Fridays for Future activists tweeted.
More strikes announced
Fridays For Future wants to strike every two weeks until the next global climate strike on September 23 for institutions “that have significantly exacerbated the climate and energy crises in Austria and continue to vehemently oppose climate protection”.
