Arrivals of displaced persons from Ukraine have decreased significantly in recent months. Currently, about 80,000 Ukrainians are registered in Austria, about 57,000 of whom receive basic care from the federal and state governments. 49,200 residences were registered by private individuals.
“Healthcare and housing are working well for the most part. If individual cases are reported to us where this is not the case, we immediately investigate these cases and try to achieve an improvement,” said refugee coordinator Andreas Achrainer.
16,000 Ukrainian students expected
The refugee coordinator mentioned the enrollment of Ukrainian children for the coming school year as the most important task at the moment. About 16,000 Ukrainian students are currently expected. However, the Ministry of Education is preparing much higher maximum capacities.
To date, 11,235 work permits have been issued by the AMS. Successful access to the labor market and the associated knowledge of German are important elements for successful integration, emphasized Achrainer, who thanked civil society and NGOs for the “constructive and trusting” cooperation.
Meanwhile, on the 170th day of the war, the Russian army continued its attacks in eastern Ukraine with undiminished intensity (see video above).
