the and the Basque taxi drivers they estimate that the increase in CPI will mean a increase in the prices by 2023 from 13 or 14%. The President of the Basque Federation of Taxi, Borja Musons, has announced that for this month of September she will meeting with the Basque government to know these rates, in a sector that is regulated and in which the “final word” rests with the administration.

In this sense, Musons has stated that the Basque government “must be responsible” for the work of taxi drivers to be “paid and profitable”, and specified that taxi fares, which are set by the administration, are fixed at the end of the year for the next fiscal year, and that “it is rare” for changes to be made in the interim.

For this reason, and with regard to the increase in fuel, he has acknowledged that no change has been made. The representative of the Basque taxi drivers has stated that the increase in the fuel price is assumed by the self-employed, the taxi driver, who “continues to charge the same for a ride, with more operating costs”; however, he has emphasized that the taxi “does not have fuel as the biggest expense”, and that the driver’s salary must be taken into account, “who ultimately has to live”.

However, he has assured that he does not know if the increase will reach 13%. At the September meeting, they will ask to talk “what to do with the 2023 tariffs”, although he has reiterated that “they are the ones set by the government”.
