According to the motorist clubs ARBÖ and ÖAMTC, the coming weekend will be full of traffic jams again. The Karawankenautobahn (A11), the Tauernautobahn (A10), the Pyhrnautobahn (A9) and the Fernpass route (B179) are affected. Reasons are the Frequency Festival in St. Pölten, the MotoGP race in Spielberg and the end of the holiday in some German federal states.
The main areas affected by the traffic delays are the Karawanken Motorway (A11), the Tauern Motorway (A10), the Fernpass route (B179) for the Lermooser Tunnel and the Vils/Füssen Border Tunnel and the Pyhrn Motorway (A9). In addition, the ÖAMTC and ARBÖ inform that there should be a backlog on the A13 over the Brenner Pass for the border crossings at Suben (Innkreis Autobahn A8) and Walserberg (Westautobahn A1).
As the FM4 Frequency Festival takes place on weekends in St. Pölten after a two-year Corona break, there will also be a lot of traffic in the wider area. Anyone arriving by car should expect traffic jams around the festival site and on Mariazeller Straße (B20) and in front of the St. Pölten-Süd interchange on the Westautobahn (A1) on arrival and especially on departure. New parking spaces can be reached via the St. Pölten – Ost exit on the Krems highway.
ARBÖ recommends public transport
In addition, the ARBÖ advises to travel to the festival by public transport. “Sankt Pölten is easily accessible by public transport via the ÖBB and Westbahn. Free shuttle buses run from the central station to and from Greenpark,” says traffic expert Josef Kocanda.
Meanwhile, motorcycle fans will be romping at the MotoGP in Spielberg this weekend and thousands of visitors are expected in Murtal. Departure on Sunday in particular could be associated with long traffic jams. The ÖAMTC expects delays on the Murtal Schnellstraße (S36), Gaberl-Straße (B77), Friesacher Straße (B317) and on the direct access roads to the parking lots. There may be further delays on the A9 in the construction area between Gratkorn Nord and Übelbach.
Alternative in MotoGP
Alternatively, travelers from the south east can take the route via the A2 (south expressway) and the Obdacher Sattel (B78). Coming from Linz, the construction site between St. Pankraz and Windischgarsten is particularly at risk of traffic jams. The only option left here is to start earlier on arrival.
