The vice president of Foment del Treball is the only alternative candidate for Antonio Garamendi
Foment del Treball Vice President Virginia Guinda is finalizing her candidacy for the presidency of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), sources familiar with the decision told Europa Press.
This is the only alternative candidacy to that of the current president of the Spanish employers’ association, Antonio Garamendi, who will try to extend his presidency for another four years in the elections on November 23.
Guinda, who has until November 8 to present the guarantees, has been CEO of Iberboard since early 2018 and co-founded the company Energía Local in 2008, which she led for 10 years.
Since 2006, she has held the position of technical director of the Spanish Cogeneration Association (Acogen), which represents this sector on the Electricity Advisory Board of the National Energy Commission.
In addition to the Vice-Presidency, she has been a Member of the Board of Directors of the Catalan Employers’ Association and President of its Energy Forum since the end of 2014, and is a member of the Board of the CEOE.
Guinda is a senior industrial engineer of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), a member of the Collegi d’Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya (COEIC) and a specialist in energy management.
A businessman who is in favor of Guinda formalizing her candidacy sees in her a woman of experience and rigor “who knows what it means to risk her personal capital to revive a company, to internationalize it and to face a crisis like the present.”
The president of the Federation of Automotive Dealer Associations (Faconauto), Gerardo Pérez, decided last week not to submit an alternative candidacy after investigating the possibility.
