How to warm up without leaving a euro

Date:

The cost of electricity to condition the house in the middle of winter varies depending on the type of appliance being used at any given time.

With the thermometers freezing in half of Spain and temperatures dropping below 0 degrees in many autonomous communities, heating homes is becoming an experience where it is necessary to combine a cozy thermal sensation with an affordable electricity bill. That is the challenge many families face as a year has passed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. From then on, electricity costs skyrocketed.

But by using each appliance correctly (branch, heat pump, heater, etc.) you can save yourself a considerable amount of money. Especially since each device hides more than one surprise. The differences are almost abysmal. The use of a specific device can entail an expense of between 80 and a maximum of 300 euros. If we multiply these average prices by the five cold months, the differences in spending per household can amount to 1,000 euros, depending on the device used.

In general, any mobile device that serves to heat a room (bedroom, bathroom, dining room) will cost much more than all other options. Although it may seem different, an electric heater with resistance, oil or electric brazier gives off much more light than many users thought.

In second place in this winter ranking are installations that use diesel or natural gas. The first option is more expensive due to the increase that this commodity has suffered in international markets in recent months.

And in the case of natural gas, while comfortable, rates have also risen sharply over the past year. Keep in mind that after the government limits Regulated Rate (TUR) increases, this option will be cheaper than any of the free market gas rates.

An option increasingly valued by users is pellet stoves, a raw material that, while becoming more expensive, is much more efficient than other options.

The most unknown device in terms of efficiency/cost is heat pumps, an option that provides warm air in winter and cold air in summer, and whose electricity consumption is one of the lowest possible, although it is true that the investment for its installation (between 400 and 700 euros, depending on the modality) attracts many consumers.

This is practically what is happening with the new technologies to heat the house, such as geothermal energy. It is an energy source that takes advantage of the heat from the subsurface to produce hot water, heating and air conditioning. The installation is expensive, although the monthly consumption is practically minimal.
