In the Wirecard scandal, the main suspect, Jan Marsalek, who has been in hiding for three years, has reported this to the Munich authorities through his lawyer. A letter from the lawyer has been received at the Munich I court, a spokesman for the court said on Tuesday, according to dpa.
The court spokesman did not specify the contents or details of the letter. According to “Wirtschaftswoche”, which reported earlier, the lawyer would not have specifically addressed the allegations of fraud against the Austrian manager in the letter.
Speculation about its whereabouts
Wirecard’s former CFO had fled abroad in the summer of 2020 as the collapse of the former DAX group became apparent. According to various media reports, Marsalek fled to Russia. There was even speculation whether the ex-manager was still alive.
Marsalek and his gang allegedly looted the group through a network of companies and embezzled huge amounts of money that actually belonged to the group.
