Unemployment rates – Fewer people were unemployed in June than in May

Date:

Unemployment in Austria continues to fall. At the end of June this was 5.5 percent, the lowest level since 2008. In addition, the pre-registrations for short-time working had halved within a month, reports Labor Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP).

Most recently there were 24,436 registrations for short-time working. With regard to unemployment, the Ministry of Labor announced on Friday that 298,402 people were registered with the AMS at the end of June. This number includes both registered unemployed (22,908) and participants in training (69,494). In total, there are fewer than in May 2022 (311,500) and in June 2021.

The largest declines have occurred in the over-50s, the domestic population and women. In a comparison of the federal states, Tyrol, Salzburg and Lower Austria in particular have fewer unemployed people. In all nine federal states, the numbers have decreased compared to May.

“More people are working than ever before”
“More people are currently working than ever before,” said Labor Minister Martin Kocher. At the end of June, it employed 3.95 million people, an increase of 130,000 from June two years ago. According to Kocher, the corona pandemic is only slightly felt on the labor market.
