The hotel industry is not worried about the high and still rising corona figures. There are occasional booking errors but that is not dramatic. Covid is noticeable among the employees.
“Employees are infected, you can feel it and it’s more painful than when one or two bookings fail,” said Walter Veit, president of the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV).
The number of employees this year is even higher than in the year before the corona pandemic of 2019, but fewer hours are being worked, making the situation sometimes tense. Many workers would also be concerned about contamination. The mask was therefore re-introduced on a voluntary basis in some companies.
“Save Problems”
The ÖHV president finds the obligation to wear masks, for example in Vienna’s public transport, “reasonable” and easy to imagine where many people gather: “If you can contain it, we can save ourselves a lot of trouble”.
On the other hand, Veit no longer expects a new lockdown, “that would be the worst thing that could be done to us”. You could also see that it did nothing. The lockdown also cost the sector a lot of staff.
