Visit to De Wiener Werk – First Insights: For example, new Graz Trams are

Date:

The wait is an end: the first new Graz tram set could now be visited in the work of the Alstom Company in Vienna, and the “Kroon” was there too. Why leather seats vandals should prevent, how mobile phones can be loaded – and why surf boards have no room.

In accordance with the Nieuwe Binnenstadlijn, which will enter into force at the end of November, 15 new tram sets will travel on the Graz roads in the future. They are manufactured by the Alstom Transport Austria GmbH in Vienna, who invited Monday to close the first one.

The tour of the work starts in the Lashal, where the frames of the wagons are welded together. The first components can be seen on a frame – a future cabin from the driver, as explained later. It is no coincidence that the device on which the frame is composed is green. On the contrary: the facility for the production of the styric BIM is just as green as styria. Moreover, the same device is red – there is the production of the Viennese trams sets.

Production is a long process with many different steps. After welding the frame, upholstery, windows, doors, electronics, air conditioning systems, lighting and much more must be installed. The interior is then equipped and the train is put in the factory for the first time by its passes.

The first look at the almost finished garnish is surprised: “Hopefully you are ready and you will come to Graz,” says Finanzstadt councilor Manfred Eber (KPö), who enters the director of the driver and, together with vice -burger Judith Schwentner (Greens), the future job of the Graz Tram -.

Schwentner is also happy with the long -collected tour: “I think it’s great that the new trams are so well equipped and there is such a great accessibility.” The purchase costs around 63 million euros, which, according to Schwentner, is also an important step for expanding public transport in Graz.

Mobile phones can be charged
“We have heard that there are bims with brackets for surfboards in Australia. That would not be logical in Graz in Graz, but we also wanted something unique. Now there are six inductive charging stations for smartphones in every new set,” says Holding-Graz board member Mark Persz.

The seats of the new trams are also covered with leather. The reason for this is vandalism. “Because the seats in Linz were covered with leather, vandalism incidents have fallen by around 80 percent. That is why we have also decided to do this,” said Pers. The blankets are made of recycled learning tress and therefore sustainable.

Another plus of the new sets: they are equipped with an obstacle warning system. Persz: “The rear collision in Antenstraße last week would not have been avoidable, but it would have been more a glimpse because the railway had started to brake in itself.”

The sets are supplied to Graz with a large truck. The first train is planned to arrive in the fall, the remaining 14 are then delivered every month. From 2026 the first flexity set will also travel with passengers.
