Patxi López criticizes that for the PP, “the worse for Spain, the better” and Pablo Echenique strives to include changes in the final text
Patxi López made his debut this Thursday as the new spokesman for the Socialist Group in Congress by presenting the new tax on banks and energy companies, which he hopes will be approved in parliament before the end of the year, so that it to take effect on January 1. Although the executive branch does not have a guaranteed parliamentary majority to implement the proposal, Patxi López was confident that the parliamentary process will include changes that the parties can contribute, while at the same time he is confident in the tax project to feed.
After recording the project, the socialist parliamentary spokesman asked the media “what is the PP for” and criticized the “scorched earth patriotism” and the “permanent confrontation” which, from his point of view, was the opposition’s first party . He even took the opportunity to express his first criticism of the party led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo: “Why is the patriotism of the PP that of scorched earth, that of the worst for Spain, the better for me? ” This is one of the many questions that López has launched in his first intervention in his new job. He has also wondered “for what” and “who is the PP for” when criticizing these new taxes, such as the one that will be processed.
He has also refuted some of Feijóo’s statements assuring that his education serves the “humble”. “The humble are not the ones with Community of Madrid scholarships earning more than €100,000 or the big companies getting extraordinary benefits, but those taking advantage of government policies rejected by the PP,” he added.
United We Can parliamentary spokesman Pablo Echenique, for his part, emphasized the fines that the sector will have to bear if this new tax is passed on to customers. And he insisted that he believed that a new crime could have been included in the Criminal Code. “We will see how the agreed mechanism works. We continue to insist that if this practice, which threatens the public interest, is carried out, there must be a strong hand. If we see it not working and they are carrying out these prudish devotional practices, we will continue to push for that strong hand,” he said.
Echenique warned that his party will be “very vigilant” with banks and energy companies in the face of the possibility that they will pass the new tax on to the final consumer. He believes this view that taxes will be transferred to the citizens is a “mantra” used “to convince people that the privileges of those who have the most cannot be compromised.” He believes that “it is impossible” for Bankinter’s CEO, Dolores Dancausa, or Iberdrola’s president, Ignacio Galán, to “laugh at people” when they have millionaire salaries and there are citizens who are not making ends meet.
With regard to the processing of these taxes, the United We Can spokesperson has reported that bill processing is taking place during the normal period, which will begin processing them from September. “What is happening today is nothing more and nothing less than democracy. The government of the majority, of working people, telling the most privileged 1% to abide by Articles 128 or 131 of the Constitution,” he emphasized.
