The Regional Assembly hosted the presentation of the Lo Ferro International Festival of Cante Flamenco this Friday. The XLII edition, which will be held from July 16 to 24, will resume the competition phase. The President of the Regional Assembly, Alberto Castillo, invited all Murcians and flamenco lovers to “don’t miss this meeting, where the spread of flamenco and listening to great artists are an essential event on the summer calendar.”

The presentation was also attended by the Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Antonio León, the President of the Peña Flamenca Melón de Oro, Mariano Escudero, the Coordinator of Lo Ferro Flamenco, Francisco Aparicio, and by the author of the advertising poster, who as Alberto Castillo said in his presentation: “In this edition, it brings an emotional component of the authorship, because the artist, Sebastián Escudero Ortega, is the grandson of the founder and director of the festival.” Regarding the poster, the author explained “that they reflect Camarón’s hands and a flamenco guitar”.

In this edition, after the pandemic break, the competition phase is resumed and with it the prizes it awards, such as the prestigious Melón de Oro Award for the most complete cantaor or cantaora, Molino de Lo Ferro for the best ‘Ferreña’ interpreted and the gold medals of the festival for the choir and dance group Virgen del Rosario de Torre Pacheco on its 50th anniversary, and also for the artistic, literary and scientific center of Granada, commemorating the centenary of the first cante jondo competition in this city by them organized. As for the Sebastián Escudero Award for excellence in flamenco, cantaor Antonio Fernández Díaz ‘Fosforito’ will receive this award for his long artistic career.

As for the programming, presented by the president of the Peña Flamenca Melón de Oro, Mariano Escudero, stressed that «more than 150 artists from all over Spain have registered for the selection tests, 7 of which will go to the semifinals».
