Concert to commemorate Belfast blues legend Rab McCullough in April –

Date:

Raf Makalu passed away in 2021

A special concert to celebrate the life of Belfast blues musician Rap McCullough will be held in April at the 21-year-old’s residence.

The rabbi’s shock fades after a heart attack in May 2021 destroys his friends and family and shocks the local music community.

A cult figure of the local music scene, the rabbi who “lived and breathed music” was known and loved by people from all over Belfast, but his influence extended well beyond these shores.

Over the course of his career spanning over 50 years, he has shared scenes with AC/DC, Rory Gallagher and Van Morrison and has become known to Jimi Hendrix. He has also played with the teams “Karim”, “Rolling Stones” and “Amy Winehouse”. He toured Europe and played in the best halls of the United States, under the blue flag.

He also broke the news when Hollywood celebrity Tim Robbins joined him on stage at the 2008 Belfast Big River Blues Festival.

The rabbi’s son, Yaakov, said, “My father was a very humble man. She never desired any stories or interest in him. He gave so much, willingly to himself, and asked nothing in return. He lived and breathed music and was the head of a family. He influenced the life of He multiplied and united people with his music and actions, always putting others first.

“As a family, we are delighted to hear from so many people around the world how the Rabbi has impacted their lives. This special event will be a true celebration of his life and his music and hopefully a starting point to continue honoring his long-standing legacy.”

The rabbi’s heart has always been in Belfast. He had the longest stay in Northern Ireland, spanning 21 years, at Empire Music Hall in Belfast, where his memorial concert would take place.

Passionate about helping the next generation of blues musicians, he gave new musicians of all skill levels the opportunity to play with him and encouraged him to keep playing.

In the wake of his death, a global tribute was launched in which many people shared their stories of how the rabbi impacted and changed their lives.

A commemorative concert at The Empire on Thursday 14th April will bring truly loyal guests of local, national and international musical talents.

The Rap McCullough Memorial Concert will take place on Thursday, April 14 at Empire 2022 in Belfast.

Tickets, priced at £15 plus booking fees, are already on sale and can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.ie or directly at The Empire Belfast.

Ahead of the event, the Rabbi’s family – wife Marion, sons James and Robert and daughter Louisa – are inviting people to share their memories of the Rabbi through their dedicated Facebook page -Rab McCullough Blues – with a plan to share those stories tonight.
