The Catalan company opens the theater festival with 23 performances on September 15 and will be closed by Atalaya
The Association of Friends of the Villa de Molina Theater and the 53rd Molina de Segura Theater Festival presented this Friday the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award to the company Els Joglars for its 60th anniversary, an award collected by the current owner-partners of the Catalan company, Ramón Fontseré, Dolors Tuneu and Pilar Sáenz. “The theater is a living ritual, like homework, an art that dies and is born every day,” emphasized Fontseré during his acceptance speech.
Since 1961, theater Els Joglars has combined two trends that rarely occur together: research outside the conventional and popularity. The company, founded by Albert Boadella, maintained the working method of a critical theater that was directly related to the surrounding reality. For this reason, they were given imprisonment and a military court martial for the performances of the play La torna in 1977.
The history of Els Joglars is the history of constant search and investigation and the construction of a theatrical language from the school of classical mime to the integration of all possible dramatic elements, says Fernando de Arce, president of the prize-granting association.
Els Joglars is responsible for the opening of the 53rd edition of the Molinense festival. On September 15, he will represent Let Aristófanes come out at the Villa de Molina Theater. And coincidentally, another veteran company, which received the same award for his career last year, will be closing the festival on Sunday, October 2nd. Atalaya TNT offers the absolute premiere of its new show, Esperando a Godó, in Molina.
These are two of the twenty-three shows scheduled from September 15 to October 2, according to the festival’s director, Juan Francisco García Saorín. Ten of them will be represented on the street, one of the hallmarks of the programming.
In this edition, according to García Saorín, a balanced, varied and multiple program in gender and origin has been performed, including in the same theatre, circus, street theatre, dance, music, puppets, theater for young people, etc., and companies with recognized prestige such as Els Joglars of Atalaya-TNT, and other emerging companies: Enkidu, Cía. Deconne of Sofia Acosta.
“Searching for new audiences is a priority for the festival, that’s why we make an effort to create connections, communication and open spaces for young audiences by making specific programming for them and turning the street into a great theater,” explains the alderman of Culture, Soledad Nortes. The mayor refers to the Young Theater Award, in which five national professional companies participate in the second edition.
The creation of the first Youth Theater Summer Campus, which took place in these first days of July, is a novelty in this edition and made it possible to create a space for meeting and training with young people, teachers and artists. Another aim of the Molinense City Council is to stimulate dramaturgical creation by linking the JJ Ferrando Dramaturgy Award to the festival, which is holding its second edition this year.
The mayor, Eliseo García, said the festival is “a project that has shown throughout its existence that it responds to the demand of an area and that it has the support of its institutions, companies, the media, civil society organizations and the population.” On this occasion, the image of the advertising poster was created by the painter Pedro Cano. Concerning the price of the tickets, discounts are applied for groups from 12 people, people over 65, the unemployed, large families and young people between 15 and 30 years. The festival ticket has a price of 50 euros.
