Cartagena Historical Novel Week Returns to Normal

The Week of the Historical Novel of Cartagena, under the impetus and care of Obdulio López, will return to normal this year after the break caused by the pandemic, and resume the cycle of conferences, prior to the competition, which will take place from 3 to 8 October, in the auditorium of the Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena. On September 26 at 8pm, the President of the Regional Assembly of Murcia, Alberto Castillo, will give the first presentation, ‘Literary and Curious Weekly of Cartagena, the first essay on illustrated journalism in southeastern Spain’. The program of lectures is completed by Manuel Avilés (September 27, ‘How to write a historical novel, practice in the workshop of the University of Alicante), the Doctor of History Cristina Roda (September 28, ‘El Arsenal de Cartagena XXI century The technological vanguard of the Mediterranean), the captain of the ship Enrique Zafra (September 29, ‘Blas de Lezo, the double man’) and the secretary of five presidents of democracy María Ángeles López de Celis (September 30, ‘The Moncloa Palace and Its Tenants. A Story from the Inside”). In addition to the Castillo conference, the remaining presentations will take place at 8 p.m. at the Royal Society of Friends of the Country.

On October 1, at 8 pm, at the Teatro Romano, Paola Requena, universal Cartagena, great concert guitarist, will surprise the attendees, as a prelude to the XXIII Historical Novel Week, with a concert entitled ‘Ibero-American music for guitar’.

The board of directors of the association promoting these conferences has decided to appoint Antonio Perez Henares, “Chani”, ambassador of the Week of the Historical Novel “for his dissemination of literature and culture in general”. Perez Henares presented four of his novels in previous editions and in 2008 even won the ‘Ciudad de Cartagena’ Award. The appointment will take place on October 8, at the same time as the presentation of his work ‘Tierra Vieja’.

However, the presentations will begin on October 3 with José Soto Chica (“The God Who Inhabits the Sword”) and José M. Aparicio (“Banderizos”); on October 4 it’s the turn of Macarena Muñoz (‘Foreigners’) and Mireia Gallego (‘Servilia’); on October 5, Lola Gutiérrez (‘Playa de Poniente’) and José Ángel Mañas (‘Pelayo’) will participate; On October 6, José Luis Ortín (“When September Rises”), Javier Lorenzo (“The Green Knight”) and Pilar Sánchez Vicente (“The Daughter of the Tides”) were confirmed.

Finally, on October 7, Alicia Vallina (“Daughter of the Sea”), Mar Cantero (“A precious night to fly”) and Francisco Narla (“Balvanera”) are on the program.

The organization has announced that on October 8, Vic Echegoyen will also present ‘Resurrecta’, which will receive the III Odilo Award for the best novel of the competition written by a woman, in an act in which he will receive the Miguel Rodríguez. Gutiérrez award, Odilo’s business advisor. José Zoilo, for his part, will talk about his successful novel ‘Lordemano’ and will receive the prize of the City of Cartagena in the XXIIIth edition, from the Director of Culture of Cartagena, Fulgencia Plazas.
