Movies on the big screen in Cieza to get out of the digital world

Date:

From Monday, the XXXI Magical Film Week will feature interesting titles such as ‘The Good Boss’, ‘Belfast’, ‘Alcarràs’ and ‘The Last Movie’

The XXXI Magico Film Week takes place from Tuesday 16 to Monday 22 August in Cieza, with a program that includes some of the film season’s most evocative titles, such as ‘The good boss’, ‘Belfast’ and ‘Alcarras’.

The Atalaya-Ateneo de la Villa Club is committed “to alternative cultural programming that resists in a world of small screens and ruled by digital platforms and subscribers.” Once the constraints and restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic have been overcome, these summer days will become “a great excuse to get out of the digital encapsulation and explore other nooks and crannies beyond a physical space or a screen”. propose the organizers.

The Spanish film ‘El Buen Patron’ (Tuesday 16), starring Javier Bardem, is about labor disputes. In ‘Belfast’ (Wednesday 17), a social drama set in Ireland in the 1960s, the childhood passion for cinema is also present in an environment guided by the workers’ struggle. The comic part is responsible for ‘La brigade de la cocina’ (Thurs 18th), a French comedy that deals with issues such as immigration or job insecurity. The most “magical” movie night of this week in Cieza is performed by the traditional jazz band Andrés Santos Station Band, made up of a group of Murcian musicians of different generations belonging to associations, groups and music and jazz circles with a great tradition in the region. The group will captivate the audience live with a musical illustration of the silent film ‘Why Worry?’ (Friday 19).

The rural note is provided by ‘Alcarràs’ (Sunday 21), by Carla Simón, who recounts the agricultural life of a family dedicated to growing and harvesting a field of peach trees threatened by the announcement by the rightful owner of the installation of a photovoltaic system. Finally, ‘The Last Movie’ will be screened (Monday 22), which tells of the discovery of cinema by a group of children from India who makes them dream of a better life.

There will also be exhibitions: ‘Grandes vignettes’ by Eneko las Heras, painter, illustrator, press caricaturist since 1979; ‘Thrailer’, by Club Atalaya, a montage of graphic documents interweaving part of the group’s history; and finally ‘Artistic Movie Posters’.

Cinema tickets have a collaboration price of 5 euros per session, with the exception of the Friday session of musical cinema, the collaboration of which will be 7 euros. Tickets for five of the six sessions are on sale at the box office, with the exception of the silent film set to music, which costs 20 euros. All screenings begin at 9:45 PM in the courtyard of the Club Atalaya, in the Ateneo de la Villa de Cieza.

The Cine Club La Linterna Mágika was part of the State Federation of Cinema Clubs with whose film library they showed classic cinema titles and art and essay films in original versions. After the closure of the Galindo and Capitol de Cieza cinemas, the promoters embarked on the adventure of maintaining a weekly program with a projector with a carbon lamp and new seats, so that the love of cinema would not disappear. Until now, commercial films and movies for moviegoers have been shown. Every summer since 1990, they organize the Magico Film Week, which screens a selection of the best of the year.
