The federal presidential elections will take place next Sunday, October 9. A week before the vote, we asked around Styria Mürzsteg, where the head of state’s second official residence is located, and asked: “Have you ever met the Federal President?”
Heavy barred gates protect the noble state property from prying eyes. The legendary hunting lodge must keep its secrets, only the Federal President and carefully selected guests know the historic rooms of the old villa. Emperor Franz Josef, a passionate hunter, had a castle built in the wooded Mürzsteg in 1869 and even received the Russian Tsar Nicholas II there. Since 1947, Mürzsteg has served as a summer residence for the respective head of state. Alexander Van der Bellen did the same.
Yesterday, Sunday, a week before the presidential elections, we asked around the city of Upper Styria: have you ever met the Federal President? In any case, the public currently only gets to see Walter Rosenkranz, because the FPÖ candidate is the only one smiling from the posters by the side of the road.
