Talk to Katia Wagner – Lawyer: “Shortly Can Change Citizenship”

Date:

The statement by former Finance Minister Thomas Schmid hit like a bomb. Former chancellor Sebastian Kurz is likely to come under pressure as a result. Lawyer Arthur Machac explains in a conversation with Katia Wagner that he is now likely to be charged and that a prison sentence is even possible. How could he escape this? The top lawyer explains: “He could consider taking citizenship from a country from which he will not be extradited”. For example from the US.

The renowned lawyer believes that ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid could very well have leniency status. His revelations were not a “political bomb” but a “nuclear winter” and would have brought further revelations, especially about how things had been done in the ÖVP. Arthur Machat even sees the facts of a “criminal organization” for the ÖVP! It is also not unlikely that Sebastian Kurz will go to prison. “Other top politicians have already gone to the Häf’n,” says the lawyer.

Hofer: “ÖVP must get to work”
Political expert Thomas Hofer sees “another huge impact” in the Schmid case. The ÖVP must ask itself how to proceed in general. Above all, the election in Lower Austria harbors the “danger that voters will be judged”. If there is any prospect of Johanna Mikl-Leitner losing massively, “the pressure will mount to make something happen”. In any case, there is still talk of a “shock state” at the moment. “The ÖVP has to get to work”, advises the political adviser.

Vogl: “War of the Roses” between Kurz and Schmid
“Krone” domestic political journalist Erich Vogl does not believe in Sebastian Kurz’s theory that Thomas Schmid’s allegations can be fabricated, mainly because he has provided a “good substrate”. “If this is all supposed to be a lie, it’s well made up,” he explains. He believes a “war of the roses” is now looming between Kurz and Schmid. He too is confident that a “clear cut” into the short past is needed, even if Chancellor Nehammer has more of a car mentality at the moment.

Is the ÖVP now turquoise or black?
According to the department head of the “Kurier”, Martin Gebhart, a return of Sebastian Kurz is unlikely. Now the conflict must also be worked out, whether the party is turquoise or black. The Laura Sachslehner issue has also not been resolved to date, as she is still active in the Vienna ÖVP after retiring as Secretary General. While there is still statement against statement at this point, momentary desire within the party is currently waning.

Can there be another referee team?
Should the ÖVP come up with a change of chairman to blow a breath of fresh air, Karoline Edtstadler has always been “in talks” as a replacement, according to the two journalists in the group. Criminal lawyer Machac would think that was a good idea, because: “Edtstadler is a former criminal lawyer, she would certainly support the reprocessing”.

“Katia Wagner – the Talk” can be seen every Wednesday at 8.15 pm on krone.tv and at 11 pm on ntv Austria!
