The first cybersecurity conference took place in Klagenfurt on Monday. The findings of the mid-May hacker attack were discussed.
On May 24, hackers penetrated the communication systems of the Carinthian state government. From the beginning, there was close cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior, which has now led to the first cybersecurity conference in Austria.
IT experts and representatives from the state, the federal government and Europol gave lectures on Monday in Klagenfurt to more than 200 listeners from municipalities and the public sector. They must be spared the fate of the country through prevention, awareness, rapid action, improved communication and constantly evolving security systems.
Severe penalties demanded
Stricter criminal prosecution is also required; to do this, significantly more top experts would have to be recruited for the public service. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner even draws a rather drastic comparison with the terrorist attacks of the 1970s. “After that, special units such as the Cobra arose. Now it is time for a kind of cybercobra.”
