Shocking details revealed on Thursday the discussion of the audit office report in Innsbruck city council. The list of misconduct, opaque processes and tricks is so long that the discussion has lasted for hours. Mayor Georg Willi endured the criticism with a stoic expression.
Main point of criticism: In the town hall there are apparently equals and more equals. 170 of the 1,700 employees have special contracts “that unbalance the salary plan,” the report warns. “I had to swallow when reading – about the daring and the injustice. Red lines have not only been crossed, but have jumped three meters above the ground,” explained FP club president Andrea Dengg.
9.5 weeks of vacation in a row is just the tip of the iceberg for the former HR manager. In the green mayor’s office, user fees are collected at a level that is not allowed at all.
Documents submitted late
The report contains more than 60 concrete recommendations and suggestions for improvement. It was difficult for the control office to come about because some documents from the then head of the office were sent with a delay.
Granted tricks
“The report is a document of total professional and social overload,” said Markus Stoll for Innsbruck-GR. Willi does not protect the employees, but himself against a majority. Not only did he call on Willi to take his hat off. He and Grün-GR Gerhard Fritz admitted that they had “cheated” the salary scheme to attract the brightest minds. Then the waves rose again!
The green trio was fed up
The political bomb of the day already exploded at the start of the city council meeting. It was a real bang that reverberated throughout Innsbruck’s political landscape. After the recent escalations surrounding Mayor Willi’s personnel policy, three city council members (Thomas Lechleitner, Marcela Duftner and Renate Krammer-Stark) left the Greens Club and immediately started a new list.
Willi said he was completely surprised by the dismissal. “Not true”, says club president GR Marcela Duftner of the newly created list “Innsbruck worth living in – a city for everyone”. He was told that several times, “but we were not taken seriously”.
But you don’t want to leave the Green party, Duftner said. State-level functions, however, are relaxed. “We’re just regular members.”
Willi can’t understand accusations
The trio led Duftner for eight reasons for turning away from Willi: “Inability to communicate transparently, to negotiate, to lead”, permanent election campaign, constant devaluation of all political competitors, focus only on maintaining power, questionable use of resources, and much more. The report of the control agency was also cited. Willi said he couldn’t understand the allegations. Never before has there been so much discussion in the club as under his leadership.
But he is not the club president, but (still) Janine Bex. Now he wants to continue his program: “I’ve been used to working with changing majorities for months.” He doesn’t think about getting up. “I am directly elected mayor. And if a majority wants to vote me out, please do. But I was elected by the people and this decision must be subject to a referendum,” said Willi.
