“Accept the result” – black and blue in Lower Austria: Mikl-Leitner refutes critics

Date:

The governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), on Tuesday referred to the disapproval of the pact between the People’s Party and the FPÖ as part of the swearing-in of the other state government members to the federal constitution. “We live in a democracy. This means that the majority of our compatriots decide on the development of Lower Austria and not on the amount of criticism from Vienna. Some seem to find it particularly difficult to accept the result of the high office of democracy, which is democratic elections,” she said.

“Lower Austria is the largest province. What happens in our country has significance for the whole republic. This was also reflected in the way the election and subsequent negotiations were followed and commented on,” Mikl-Leitner said, according to the state press service.

The current composition of the state government with four representatives from the ÖVP, three from the FPÖ and two from the SPÖ was determined – keyword proportional representation – in the state elections on the last Sunday of January.

“And in five years’ time, only the Lower Austrian compatriots will judge whether and how we have accomplished our common task – and no one else,” said Mikl-Leitner.

Van der Bellen warned Mikl-Leitner
When she was sworn in last Friday in the Vienna Hofburg, she also had to hear a few things from Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen because of her cooperation with the FPÖ. “Many people are concerned and I can understand many of those concerns,” said Van der Bellen. He denounced “anti-science” and the critical EU attitude of the PVV and also referred to National Socialism in his speech. In the end, he directly warned Mikl-Leitner, “People will take a good look at how this state government behaves!”
