Major authorities without leadership for months. ruling parties without agreement. Junior partner in the picture.
Turquoise green is coming to its rather bitter end. Mutual blocks – and you negotiate positions. An unworthy spectacle. Examples? The Federal Competition Authority (BWB) and the Federal Administrative Court (BVwG): Both lines have been empty for months. There is haggling.
ÖVP close lawyer has to come to the train
Central figure: Michael Sachs, ÖVP related lawyer. A side letter stated that the ÖVP should have a say. At the BWB, Sachs was made number one by the responsible ministry of Economics Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP). Blocking the Greens would favor interim leader Natalie Harsdorf-Borsch, who is attributed to the Vice-Chancellor Party. In addition, there are 10 additional items.
You could bring more green sheep into dry land. Sachs, in turn, is vice-chairman of the BVwG and has been a favorite of the Austrian People’s Party since the time of the Bowl.
“Busy posts, don’t push them”
NGOs such as Amnesty or Asyl Coordination sounded the alarm on Monday (see video above). It is unacceptable that the head of the BVwG, which is responsible, among other things, for asylum procedures, should be vacant. “Occupy posts, don’t push them,” was the demand.
On the long couch
The responsible ministries of Martin Kocher and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (for civil servants) refer to their proposals that have been made for a long time. A decision must be taken in a Council of Ministers or in the Federal Chancellery (BKA). The BKA says: “Both authorities are fully operational. Negotiations on the cast are still ongoing.”
How long, no one would say. The Federal President’s office reported: “All the conditions for a speedy appointment are in place.” The government must decide quickly. Incidentally, there were several eminently suitable candidates at the BWB, some with a professorship, who did not make it to the top. Unfortunately, you don’t have good political connections.
