The Abertzale coalition has announced that Nadia Nemeh Shomaly, second on its list, will be the party’s nominee for mayor. The Guzan platform, on the other hand, believes that Xabier Ortuzar (Guzan) should take over. Negotiations are open.
The Bermeo’s mayor’s office hangs in the airbehind the resignation of Asier Larrauri (EH Bildu) a few hours after taking over. Larrauri was appointed mayor with the support of two groups: EH Bildu (five councillors) and the independent platform Guzan (4 councillors). Exactly, this platform believes that the mayor of the city should be a member of his party.
Asier Larrauri, for his part, has not yet formally tendered his resignation. The law states that you must do this in writing and it is expected that you will present it at any time after announcing your decision to leave office. Once your resignation has been officially received, the in 10 days to appoint a new mayor.
The Abertzale coalition indicated this on Monday evening Nadia Neme Shomaly (EH Bildu) will be his mayoral candidate as she is second on the EH Bildu list and the decision has been ratified in the assembly.
EH Bildu claims it will “firmly defend” the agreement signed by the two formations “so that a candidate for EH Bildu can run for mayor of Bermeo.” The coalition emphasizes the need to “launch joint projects to cope with the change this city needs”.
The independent platform guzaninstead has a different perception. As several members of this formation have stated to Euskadi Irratia, the agreement means that Asier Larrauri (EH Bildu) will become mayor and Xabier Ortuzar (Guzan) deputy mayor.
In this context, Guzan states that in elections one does not vote for a party or a brand, but Unpleasant a particular candidate or candidate. For this reason, he insists that in the event that Larrauri is not mayor, Ortuzar should occupy the position and assume command of the city. This ensures that they do not accept any other option.
With all this, sources from the Guzan platform have explained to Euskadi Irratia that, if the agreement signed between the two parties is not fulfilled, the PNV could obtain the mayorship of Bermeo.
Arnaldo Otegigeneral coordinator of EH Bildu, believes that Larrauri’s resignation is something that “honours him” and hopes that after his resignation an agreement will be reached “with common sense” to restore the “alternative majority” in this city, where the abertzale coalition seized the mayoralty of the PNV with the support of the Guzan platform.
On 28 May in Bermeo, the PNV was the party with the most votes, gaining 8 council members. EH Bildu, got 5 representatives and the Guzan 4 platform.
