Esparza (UPN) announces he will no longer be running for president of the Navarre government

Date:

“Life is cycles and I’ve had mine. I will no longer run for Navarre’s government,” said UPN’s president.

The president of the UPN, Javier Esparza, will not run for president of the government of Navarre in the next regional elections.

This was announced in an interview with the Diario de Navarra collected by Europa Press after he failed to lead the government of Navarra despite being the candidate with the most votes in the 2015, 2019 and 2023 elections .

“Life is cycles and I’ve had mine. I will no longer be a candidate for the government of Navarre,” Esparza says in this interview, adding: “I’m going to leave my soul so that whoever is the candidate of the UPN for the government, Navarra will preside in four years”.

The regionalist leader is “very proud of the result and of the support we have had every time we ran” and believes there has been “a before and after” in Navarre and Spanish politics since the PSOE made the decision that “it is possible to agree with EH Bildu”. “Neither Miguel Sanz nor Yolanda Barcina would have been president of this Socialist Party,” he insists.

In this sense, he emphasizes that in Navarre “stable governments could be formed in their time, well chaired by the PSN with the support of the UPN, well chaired by the UPN with the support of the PSN.” He confirms that in 2019, after the “hook of 2015” – when Geroa Bai ruled with the support of EH Bildu, Podemos and Izquierda-Ezkerra – there was the possibility to “have a stable and rational government”, but the socialists ” have changed”.
