The Ministry of Interior yesterday ordered the adoption of “additional measures” within level 4 of the 5 anti-terrorist alert it has maintained since June 26, 2015.
Spain has strengthened security measures in ten embassies and diplomatic delegations after the Interior Ministry’s terrorist threat assessment table yesterday adopted “additional measures” under the anti-terrorist alert level 4 out of 5.
Today, Wednesday, the State Secretary for Security sent an official letter instructing the security forces to ensure security around the delegations of Israel, Palestine, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, France, Denmark, Sweden, USA and UK.
The Domestic Resolution calls for strengthening current police measures in strategic, economic, educational, cultural or religious interests of these countries. It also recommends increasing prevention, protection and anti-terrorist response measures at events and festivities relevant to religious communities, as well as on days or events designated by terrorist organizations to commit some form of violent action .
The letter, which consists of six points, asks the members of the National Police, Civil Guard, Mossos d’Esquadra and Ertzaintzaas well as all the officials of the rest of local police and by private security companies to make their self-protection extreme.
Spain has maintained anti-terror alert level 4 since June 26, 2015 due to the successive attacks in France, Tunisia, Kuwait and Somalia. This is the penultimate planned step, since the maximum, level 5, is reserved for cases of threatened attacks on national territory and this in practice, as a difference from the previous level, only the presence of soldiers in critical infrastructures, communication nodes and places with a large accumulation of people.
