From January 1, the household rate officially replaces the old GIS rate. In the krone.tv interview, Heinz Lederer, SPÖ board member of the public broadcaster, speaks in general terms about the future of the ORF and also openly admits: “There are terrible working conditions.”
The issue of the composition of the ORF committees, especially the foundation and the public council, is also central to the conversation. “I believe it is good if a general manager is elected on a two-thirds basis,” said the board of the SPÖ Foundation.
Even as the baby boom generation retires in the coming years, young, socio-economically diverse talent will be attracted. Despite previous job losses, Lederer sees an opportunity to offer young journalists perspective.
He criticizes the precarious working conditions, which he describes as “terrible”. For sustainable change, the ORF must act quickly and finally create attractive offers for young talents.
